What is a date/time field?

A date/time field is an input field that allows users to enter a date and time separately, either manually or with a the date/time picker UI.

How long can the input of a date/time field be?

All of the default CRM fields will allow the manual input of the date so long as the date is in the proper format set by the user in personal date settings. In absence of a user customizing their personal date settings, the organization date settings will be used to determine the proper format.

Custom fields will allow the manual input of the date/time so long as the date is in the proper format set by an admin in organization settings or the user in personal date settings.

 

What will happen if user attempts to type or copy in more characters than the maximum allowed?

  • On create, edit and record detail pages, there are no truncation checks
  • On mass update processes, there are no truncation checks
  • During importing of multiple records, the input would be rejected for the field, but the record would still be created

What are the disallowed characters in a date field?

  • HTML markup
  • non date characters: parentheses ( and forward slashes /

 

What are the allowed characters in a date field?

  • numbers
  • forward slashes / to separate the day/month/year
  • periods .  to separate the day.month.year
  • am
  • pm

 

What is the proper date format? What happens if either my personal settings or company settings have a custom date format? How should I enter my date?

The CRM system will accept your input in the format your admin has selected in settings/organization settings/date format, but you can change that choice personally in settings/personal settings/date format.

 

 

What happens if disallowed characters are entered and a user attempts to move his/her mouse away from the input?

This is called “On Blur data validation.”

  • On create, edit pages, the input will be detected for format and a field style error message will be prompted if the input is not in the proper date format
  • On record detail pages, the input will be detected for format and a pop up error message will be prompted if the input is not in the proper date format

What happens if disallowed characters are entered and a user attempts to save?

This is called “On Submit data validation.”

  • On create, edit pages, the input will be detected for format and a field style error message will be prompted if the input is not in the proper date format
  • On record detail pages, the input will be detected for format and a pop up error message will be prompted if the input is not in the proper date format
  • On mass update processes, the input will be detected for format and a pop up error message will be prompted if the input is not in the proper date format
  • During importing of multiple records, the input will be rejected and a null value will be entered for this value while the record is created.
