What is a required field?

A required field is a module field that can not be blank upon clicking the SAVE button on:

  • Create Record pages
  • Edit Record pages
  • Record Detail pages

 

How do I recognize a required field?

Required fields will be denoted by an *asterisk next to the field name

What happens if I leave a required field blank when clicking SAVE on a Create Record page?

  • The record will not be created
  • The UI will stay on the create record page
  • A field error state will appear around the field with a message to fill out the required field.

 

What happens if I leave a required field blank when clicking SAVE on an Edit Record page?

  • The record will not be updated
  • The UI will stay on the edit record page
  • A field error state will appear around the field with a message to fill out the required field.

 

What happens if I leave a required field blank when clicking SAVE on a Record Detail page?

  • The record will not be updated
  • The UI will stay on the record detail page
  • A red popup will appear with a message to fill out the required field.

 

How can I change the required fields for a record type?

Some field are system locked as required. However, an admin for your account can add designate any other active fields to be required or not required on settings/customization/layouts.

 

What are admin-set required fields?

These are fields that have been set as required for input by an admin user of your account. Each time a user visits these pages:

  • create record
  • edit record
  • record detail

they will have to include a value for the required field at Save. Required fields can not be null.

What is a System-Locked Required Field?

System-Locked Required Fields are fields that:

  • must be filled out each time a record is manually created
  • can not be made non-mandatory by an admin on the customization/layouts page

Why does Benchmark CRM require these mandatory System-Locked Required Fields?

Mostly to enable the searching and clicking of records to work smoothly within the system. An example would be the records listed on the Leads or Contacts dashboards. The clickable part of the listed record is the contact or lead’s name, so we require at least a last name be present.
